Artist Statement
Marie Kathleen Moone is a painter based in Eugene, Oregon. She studied art in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and received a BA in Studio Art from Appalachian State University. Inspired by French arts and culture, Marie spent a year living in Paris where she studied contemporary visual art. For the past 12 years, Marie has been creating gallery art and commissioned paintings in her local community and across the country.
Marie’s vibrant paintings demonstrate playful explorations of color, texture, and brushwork. Often referencing wildflowers, hummingbirds, historic houses, sky, and waterscapes, Marie aims to portray the spirit of her subject matter through intuitive expression. Marie is attentive to tension between edges, light and shadow, and exposing the layers of her process. Her work evokes a blend of realism and abstract imagery that emerges as she alternates her focus between depicting an image and expressing the vital energy that her subject inspires. Marie completes most paintings in one sitting, capturing a fresh and singular experience.
Marie seeks to experience her own essence along with the essence of her subject matter as she establishes a connection with it. She describes the process of painting as akin to breathing; when given space, it comes naturally and maintains a holistic sense of wellbeing and happiness.
